France vs Belgium 2024 Euro Prediction, Odds, Picks

We’re in the knockout stages of Euro 2024 as France take on Belgium in the round of 16 in Germany on Monday. We’re here to share our European Championship odds series, making a France-Belgium prediction and picks as we show you how to watch.

France have reached the knockout stages. Firstly, they started strongly with a 1-0 win over Austria. France then went down in the next two games, drawing scoreless against the Netherlands and 1-1 with Poland. They have returned to the Round of 16 for the fourth tournament in a row.

Belgium narrowly squeaked by and reached the knockout stages. Things started badly for the Belgians when they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Slovakia. But things quickly changed with a 2-0 win over Belgium, before ending with a goalless draw against Ukraine. Ultimately, it will be Belgium’s third consecutive tournament appearance in the Round of 16.

Since 1904, the countries have played each other 75 times. France recently defeated Belgium 3-2 in the Nations League in 2021. France also defeated Belgium 1-0 in the 2018 World Cup. Amazingly, it will be the first Euros meeting between the countries since 1984.

Why France will win

Kylian Mbappe played with a face mask after breaking his nose, and it wasn’t easy for him. Unfortunately, it was uncomfortable and limited much of his movement. But Mbappe will still enter the knockout stages after scoring one goal from 12 shots on his return. Now the ultimate test for him is to get more opportunities.

Ousmane Dembele is the other prominent striker and will be looking to make some magic happen on the pitch, but he still hasn’t managed more than six shots in this tournament.

Aurelien Tchouameni leads the midfielders and just completed 42 passes against Poland. Meanwhile, Adrien Rabiot had 37 passes, while N’golo Kante had 41. Antoine Griezmann only played 29 minutes and could still be on a minutes restriction. However, he can still be a threat if given more time.

The defense was strong for the French. So far they have controlled other teams and their scoring opportunities. Dayot Upamecano led the way with 26 tackles and 18 clears. William Saliba also added 15 tackles and 14 clears. Jules Kounde has 26 tackles and 11 clears to his name. Finally, Theo Hernandez has had a solid tournament with 24 tackles and eight clean sheets. These four did a great job helping goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who has nine saves and only conceded one goal.

France will win this match if Mbappe can generate some scoring chances on the pitch and kick one into the net. Then the defense must stop the best players Belgium throws at them, including an all-time leading scorer who is struggling.

Why Belgium will win

The European Championship has been a disaster for Romelu Lukaku so far. Unfortunately, despite 11 shots, he has not yet scored. But Lulaku does have an assist. He wants to score and will do everything he can to get past this challenging French attack. Jeremy Doku hasn’t done much either. Still, he had 40 passes in the last game.

Kevin De Bruyne leads the midfielders and has scored one goal from 10 shots. Meanwhile, his teammate Amadou Onana is a solid passer, with 60 passes in the last match. Youri Tielemans had 44 passes in the previous match.

But the defense is as stingy as ever. Jan Vertonghen leads the way with 13 tackles and 10 clears in three games. Timothy Castagne is an elite player at the back of the field, with 18 tackles and 17 clears. Wout Faes is excellent, with 33 tackles and six clears. Tellingly, these three have done a fantastic job helping goalkeeper Koen Casteels, who has 12 saves and just one goal conceded in three games.

Belgium will win this match if Lukaku can deliver the performance of his life and give the Belgians an early lead, and then the entire defense must prevent Mbappé from scoring.

Final prediction and selection France-Belgium

Lukaku is one of the best goalscorers in the world and will certainly shine in this match. However, the French national team is much better than Belgium when firing on all cylinders. We expect the sun to shine on France and the boys to find some great opportunities for Mbappe to put one in the net. Then the defense and Maignan will do more than enough to help France win this match and progress to the quarter-finals.
