Police investigate multiple shooting and gunfire incidents in Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Detectives are investigating two separate shootings Friday that left two people injured and several other incidents involving gunfire over the weekend.

Detectives are still investigating a shooting Friday in which a man was shot in the thigh outside a downtown club on North Phelps Street. According to reports, witnesses said the gunman ran away on foot to a parking deck at Youngstown State University. The university was briefly locked down while police searched for the suspect who managed to elude officers.

Chief of Detectives Capt. Jason Simon said the victim and the shooter have an ongoing feud and the shooting occurred when they encountered each other downtown.

On Friday evening, police say a man was injured in a shooting at Sloan Avenue and Robinwood Place on the North Side. Very little information was provided about that shooting.

Last Thursday, police collected several shell casings in which an SUV was damaged by gunfire. No one was injured in that shooting.

On Saturday, police were called to a home on Samuel Street where eight shell casings from an unnamed rifle and one shell casing from a pistol were reportedly found in the street. Two adults and five children were in the home, but no one was injured.

On Sunday, police found twenty-five 9mm shell casings after responding to a gunfire call on Weston Avenue. Reports say a witness told police that a group of people fired several shots into an upstairs bedroom where someone the group was arguing with was staying. No one was injured.
