This week in Pennsylvania there is a day where you can catch fish for free

(WHTM) – During the Fourth of July holiday, everyone is invited to fish for free.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission reminds residents that July 4th is one of two Fish for Free Days this year. Fish-for-Free Days allow anyone, including non-residents, to legally fish in Pennsylvania waterways without a fishing license.

Trout/salmon and Lake Erie licenses are also not required, but for all other licenses fishing regulations still applicable

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is also reminding everyone of upcoming fishing seasons.

FISHING DATES TO REMEMBER

  • Trout and Salmon – Regular season from 8am first Saturday in April to midnight Labor Day.
  • Trout and Salmon – Extended Season – All stocked trout waters, streams plus lakes and ponds: January 1 to February 18, 2024; and from 12:01 a.m. the day after Labor Day until December 31.
  • Muskellunge, Pike, Zander – Open all year round.
  • Walleye, Sauger – From January 1 to March 14; and from 12:01 a.m. on the first Saturday in May to December 31.
  • Bass – Largemouth, Smallmouth, Spotted – Open year round.

​Permits are still required for commercial fishing on Fish for Free Days.
