Obituary Roger Makara, Poland, Ohio

POLAND, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Roger Makara, age 70, of Poland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024.

He was born on February 10, 1954 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Nancy L (Keir) Barber and Edward Makara.


Roger graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1972.

He began his career as a small business owner, operating Makara’s Alignment while also working at Youngstown Tool & Die. He later became a machinist and a dedicated employee of Parker Hannifin and the United Steelworkers Union, Local 2332, retiring in 2014.

Roger enjoyed bird watching with his wife, golfing, listening to music, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family.

One of his fondest memories is of exploring Mill Creek Park in Youngstown, Ohio, with his grandfather Willard Keir, in search of the elusive great spotted woodpecker.

Roger was a remarkable father, husband, grandfather and friend. His sense of humor could bring a smile to anyone’s face.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Makara, his daughters, Abby Makara and Megan (Sarah Fannon) Makara, his grandchildren, Alexus Lochrane and Jaxson Thomas, and his niece, Christine Pizzo.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Williard and Elizabeth Keir, his mother Nancy, his father, Edward and his sister, Betsy Makara.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours. Instead, the family will hold a gathering to celebrate Roger’s life with close friends and family.

Roger’s family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Omni Manor and Southern Care Hospice for their exceptional and compassionate care during the last two months of Roger’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, the charity that Roger supported and cherished his entire life.
