Rebel Wilson claims her new film could go ‘hidden’ amid shocking allegations

Rebel Wilson has shocked fans after sharing claims that the producers of her directorial debut, The Debtrying to stop the film from the closing night of the Toronto International Film Festival. The Pitch Perfect actress took to Instagram to share the news, while also alleging that producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden engaged in “bad behavior” on set. A spokesperson for the producers has denied Rebel’s allegations Yahoo Lifestyleand calls them “false, defamatory and highly disappointing.”

“You know sometimes in life where you try so hard and you just don’t know what to do? This is that situation,” Rebel told her followers. “Let me try to explain it the best I can.”

“You may have noticed that a few weeks ago I posted about my film, the first film I directed and which I am so proud of. The Debwhich is a little Australian original musical that’s so cute, and it’s amazing that it’s been selected for the closing night of the Toronto Film Festival, which is like… just you know, the best platform, and to be a first-time female director, it’s just, I mean, it’s huge. It’s huge.

“So to have the joy of the film being selected is one thing. But to then have the business partners involved in that film turn around and say no, the film cannot premiere is just beyond devastating.”

She continued: “Why are they saying this? Why are they holding up the premiere in Toronto? Well, this goes back to October of last year, when I discovered some bad behavior by these business partners. And let me, you know, I’m just going to tell it like it is, so I’m just going to tell you who they are. They’re so-called producers of the film — I use that term very lightly. Their names are Amanda Ghost and Gregory Cameron, and an executive producer who works with them named Vince Holden. So these are the people who are involved.

“And so I guess I reported their misconduct when I found out about it – not small things, but big things,” Rebel claims.

“Since I reported that behavior, I’ve been met with absolute brutality and retaliatory behavior. So I’m out there on set, trying to film my movie with my beautiful Australian cast and crew who are so amazing — shout out to you all.

“And yet, these people I complained about tried to make my life hell every step of the way. In the meantime, I finished the film. I made this great film, The Deb. And now, you know, almost at the finish line. They say it can’t come out. They might not release it. They might bury it.

“This is the work of hundreds of people who have put their heart and soul into this. And this behavior is absolutely disgusting and revolting.”

Rebel added that she “will not be threatened” and told her followers: “As you know, I’m not like that. I will not be threatened. I will speak the truth and warn people about these people in the industry. Who are just not behaving ethically.

“Yeah, that’s my dilemma. If the movie doesn’t play in Toronto, it’s because of these absolute assholes.”

The actress captioned her post, “If my film doesn’t get shown at least you’ll know why 🤷‍♀️ (update: Toronto gave them an extra 2 days to do the right thing and get the film shown!).”

An anonymous spokesperson for the producers of The Deb has responded to the allegations, telling Yahoo Lifestyle: “(Rebel Wilson’s) accusations are false, defamatory and disappointing. Her self-promotional claims are clearly intended to cause reputational damage to those who supported her directorial debut film The Deb—a cheerful film that we are very proud of and that we would like to share with the audience.

“If she spreads a false story to further her own agenda, she undermines the film and all the people who worked on this project.”

The spokesperson did not respond to questions about the film’s release.

Amanda Ghost previously spoke about The Deb in May 2023, in a statement saying: “It is a pleasure to collaborate with the exceptionally talented Rebel Wilson The DebThis is a project that is so intrinsically connected to Rebel and her Australian roots.

“As soon as she introduced us to the musical and talked about the film, we knew this brilliant script and unforgettable musical numbers would take on a whole new life in her capable hands. We can’t wait for the world to see it. The Deb.”

There have been previous allegations about Amanda’s work habits, with a former Epic Records employee telling Hollywood reporter in 2010, “One minute she’s totally cool, the next minute she says something totally inappropriate and denies saying it. She was a real loose cannon.”
