Visa payments crash at Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and McDonald’s

In several supermarkets, the number of card payments has collapsed today.

People who want to make purchases with a Visa card have been experiencing problems since this morning.

Customers at Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s are struggling to pay.

The problem is also affecting people who shop at McDonald’s, Primark and Marks and Spencer (M&S).

Someone in Folkestone wrote on Facebook: “Cash machine nightmare today.

“Make sure you get to a cash machine because Asda is in bankruptcy and so is most of Park Farm – Sainsbury’s, Home Bargains and McDonald’s have confirmed this so far.”

Hundreds of others have taken to social media to say they are also unable to buy goods, with Mastercard users also reporting the problem.

Customers have been experiencing issues with their Visa cards since this morning

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson responded to a customer on the company’s X account, saying: “Sorry for the issues with the card payment.

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

“We continue to monitor any further comments and information on this at this time.”

A Visa spokesperson confirmed that the company is aware of cardholders experiencing issues making payments.

They said, “While Visa’s systems are functioning normally, we are working with our partners to investigate.”

Mastercard, meanwhile, said it was “aware of some issues with payment transactions at a number of merchants in the UK” and was working to gather more information.
