Trailer for Wayne Brady’s New Reality Show: “I Admit It, It’s Weird”

A trailer has been released for Wayne Brady’s new Freeform reality show, Wayne Brady: The Family Remix.

Brady, 52, came out as pansexual last year. The new show explores his decision to come out and the support he receives from those closest to him. This includes his daughter, Maile, his ex-wife and business partner Mandie Taketa, and her new partner, Jason Michael Fordham. The latter used to be a dancer for Brady during one of his Las Vegas shows.

“I’ll admit it, it’s weird,” Brady says of his unconventional home life.

Elsewhere in the trailer, his daughter criticizes her father for not living “100 percent authentically.” Brady also suggests that living in the closet was exhausting, and that he “doesn’t want to be depressed anymore.”

“I hold myself accountable”

Deadline reports that Brady discussed the show during a panel discussion yesterday as part of the Disney Television Critics’ Association meeting.

“You could show the world whoever you wanted on Instagram or TikTok … the reality show, it was my weird way of holding myself accountable and making myself do (be honest),” he said. “So when I was coming out, or when we were sharing different things that you’re going to see on the show, I could always just have my phone on TikTok and be like everybody else. ‘Hey, everybody. Great day. I’m chilling in Malibu.’ And you turn the camera off and start crying. Versus, when the cameras were on, they were really capturing what was happening and we couldn’t stop it.”

Brady came out last August via an interview with People and an iconic TikTok video.

@waynebrady As someone who brings joy to others on tv every day, it’s ironic that I don’t get to experience it as often as I’d like. I advocate for mental health for all and part of that is self-transparency. In my work, I’ve come across a few truths, one of which is that I want to be free to love who I want. This truth makes me Pan and part of the lgbtq+ family. It’s scary as hell to say out loud but there it is. The people I admire most are those brave enough to be unapologetically themselves. This shouldn’t turn anyone’s world upside down, but if it bothers you in the slightest, that’s on you 🙂 I was so afraid of my masculinity being questioned but never mind. A “real man” in my eyes is not afraid to be honest and happy. I’m here to live my best life from now on! I love you @Mandietaketa @Maile Masako @Jason ♬ original sound – Shannon

Brady has been married twice. His first marriage, to Diana Lasso, lasted from 1993-1995. He married dancer Taketa in 1999. They divorced in 2007.

Taketa and her new partner, Fordham, have a son, born in 2021. They consider Brady a co-parent.

Wayne Brady: The Family Remix premieres July 24 on Freeform.
