Man’s Snafu with Mama Robin – InspireMore

Man’s Snafu with Mama Robin – InspireMore

Many people enjoy bird watching. While most don’t go out with binoculars and an Audobon Guide, they do enjoy watching birds dart around their yard. One couple was lucky enough to have a robin build a nest in a hanging flower basket on their porch. The nest was built, eggs were laid, and the mother bird was in the nest. When the woman’s male decided he wanted to get a better look, the little bird went into full mama bear mode.

The male climbed slowly and deliberately to get a better vantage point. The mother bird was on high alert when he reached the nest level. She stretched to her full size and turned to face the intruder.

What happened next was a move that was faster and more violent than any jump scare. The camera flew through the air, so the next shot is slightly askew. The man fell from his higher vantage point and landed with the camera view pointed at the porch ceiling. We don’t know exactly what happened, but this mighty bird defeated her opponent in epic fashion! We see the camera view change as he falls, spinning to the side before landing without mercy.

The woman’s comment indicates that the man knocked over an entire cup of coffee when he fell. He survived the fall and appears briefly and laughing at the end of the video as he retrieves his phone.

While we understand that this guy was just curious, we have to put out a call to action for other bird lovers who might try something similar. Many people don’t realize that disturbing a nest is a violation of federal law under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA). Be cautious of nesting birds near your home. Please share.
