NBA star DeMar DeRozan says he loves Drake despite his appearance in the “Not Like Us” video

DeMar DeRozan and Drake are trending on social media as their relationship status continues to come under scrutiny. Recall that the pair established a rapport in the mid-2010s when the NBA star played for the Toronto Raptors. DeRozan and Drake maintained their bond for years, even appearing together on the cover of Slam Magazine’s 6 Gods problem in 2016. In June 2024, however, DeRozan raised eyebrows when he appeared onstage at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out Show in LA, amid his feud with Drake. A few weeks later, the 34-year-old caused more tongues wagging when he appeared on Lamar’s Not like us video.

The 37-year-old rapper released the video for his diss track aimed at Drake. In the track, Lamar claimed that he was glad DeRozan was coming home because Toronto didn’t deserve him. Considering DeRozan and Drake’s relationship, fans wondered if the pair were still on good terms. However, after his controversial Not like us video cameo, the Sacramento Kings player has clarified his stance with the Canadian rapper. During a chat with Fox40 Sports‘ Sean Cunningham, DeRozan revealed he still loved Drake.

“I love Drake. We can play him anytime,” DeRozan talked about playing Drake’s songs at the Sacramento Kings’ arena.

However, the former Toronto Raptors star indicated that Lamar had been his friend for a long time. “We’re from the same city, we grew up damn close to each other in the same neighborhood. So it’s always been there. It’s not always been publicized, but that’s basically family,” he said. Cunningham reposted the interview on X, and some fans took DeRozan’s side. They noted that the cameo wasn’t a bad thing, because it was normal for DeRozan to be cordial to both rappers. According to them, he played in Drake’s city for years, and at the same time, he was from Compton, just like Lamar. Meanwhile, the God’s plan rapper has said nothing about the Not like us video. Drake has remained silent about his feud with Lamar since the release The Heart Part 6Meanwhile, Lamar has since caused shockwaves with his show in LA and the Not like us video.
