Philippine PPP projects top P3 trillion

The government’s public-private partnership (PPP) program is gaining popularity.

According to Ma. Cynthia Hernandez, executive director of the PPP Center, nine new projects worth a combined 65 billion pesos have been added to the pipeline since July.

With this expansion, the total number of PPP projects will reach 143, worth P3.095 trillion.

As of early June, there were 134 projects worth 3.03 trillion pesos.

It is notable that most of the newly added projects emerged from unsolicited proposals from the private sector.

The projects are spread across the country: 100 at national level and 43 planned for implementation by local authorities.

Hernandez said that of all the projects in the pipeline, 102 are currently in the preparation phase, 21 are in the negotiation phase, 10 are awaiting approval and eight are in the tender phase.

“The PPP Center is actually the point of contact for many international agencies that also want to help develop PPPs,” Hernandez said.
