Weekly initial jobless claims rise by 1,419 in Ohio – Business Journal Daily

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Initial claims for unemployment benefits across the state rose by more than 1,400, while continuing claims fell by more than 2,400 from the previous week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday.

Ohioans filed 7,298 initial unemployment claims during the week of June 30-July 6, up 1,419 from the previous week. About 750 of those were flagged for enhanced identity checks to ensure they are not fraudulent.

Ohioans filed 40,924 claims for continued unemployment benefits last week, down 2,421 from the previous week.





The total number of claims filed during the week was 48,222, down from the 49,224 claims filed in the week ending June 29.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in May was 4.2%. The national unemployment rate in May was 4.0%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in May was 61.9%.
