The State Fair of Texas announces the return of free pre-fair horse shows

DALLAS (KDAF) — Saddle up! The State Fair of Texas has announced the lineup of pre-fair horse shows leading up to the opening of the 2024 State Fair.

These family-friendly shows begin August 9 and run each weekend leading up to the fair. They are free to the public and take place in the air-conditioned Fair Park Coliseum. Horse exhibitors can register now to be the first to know when online registration opens.

The horse shows leading up to the 2024 fair include:

  • RSNC Ranch Sorting (August 9-11, 2024)
  • Youth Rodeo (August 17-18, 2024)
  • Women’s Breakaway Roping (August 24, 2024)
  • Barrel Race (August 25, 2024)
  • NMDA/Donkey Show (August 31-September 1, 2024)
  • AQHA/NSBA Show (September 7-8, 2024)

The show is proud to bring back the AQHA/NSBA Show, as the American Quarter Horse is legendary in the Lone Star State. Women’s Breakaway Roping also returns for its third year. As one of the fastest growing categories in Western sports and rodeo, the event was sanctioned in 2020 by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in conjunction with the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.

These events are free and open to the public – bring your partner, kids or even your to neigh-breast to come out and have some fun before the State Fair starts. The 2024 State Fair of Texas will run from Friday, September 27 through Sunday, October 20, 2024.

The registration procedure for horse exhibitors is now available here.
