Powers Hamburgers opens temporary second location at Electric Works

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Powers Hamburger, the historic burger restaurant in downtown Fort Wayne, is temporarily opening a second location in Electric Works’ Union Street Market.

The temporary location opens after a fire closed the original Harrison Street location in late June. Powers will open at Electric Works in the coming days, Union Street Market said.

“Electric Works’ dedication to the community, combined with a shared passion for preserving
Fort Wayne’s culinary heritage makes this partnership with Union Street Market not only a
practical solution, but a sincere collaboration. We are grateful for this opportunity to
continue to serve our loyal customers in a familiar and welcoming environment while we
“We are going to rebuild our original home on South Harrison Street,” said Alex Richardson, managing partner of Powers.

Two weeks ago, Powers joined another local business after the fire. ACME made its food truck available to offer the Powers menu in its parking lot.

Richardson told WANE 15 they plan to use the food truck for about four to six weeks while they restore the building.

The fire broke out in the early hours of June 25. Fort Wayne firefighters arrived within three minutes and had to force their way in through the front door. They found a small fire in the restaurant’s kitchen, with smoke throughout the building. Firefighters extinguished the fire in less than three minutes and no one was injured.
