Chelsea, a travel expert known as the Cheap Holiday Expert on social media, has revealed an ingenious trick to saving money on Airbnb bookings. Chelsea, who is a strong advocate for affordable food, accommodation and services, recently documented the clever tip in an Instagram video.

She revealed how she managed to get 21% off an Airbnb booking in Manchester. The “amazing” boat she landed was fully furnished with a double bed, kitchen, wood burner, living room, bathroom and also had the ‘smallest bar in Manchester’.

She initially discovered the African-themed Floating Homestays boat on Airbnb, which cost £132 a night, not including a £20 cleaning fee. Unsatisfied, she ventured further to see if the property could be booked directly.

For those looking to save, she advises, “This is a great trick, I use it all the time.”

Minimal effort, maximum results: she found the keywords in Airbnb’s title and then found the same ship on its own website for just £120 a night, Wales Online reports.

In her online caption, she continues: “There is SO MUCH CHOICE on Airbnb, but as more and more places open up for owners to list their properties, it’s ALWAYS worth seeing if you can find the same listing for less on another platform.

“This could be on another booking site including: Vrbo, Booking.com, Sykes, HolidayLettings. The reason this can sometimes work out cheaper is because Airbnb charges guests a service fee in addition to the nightly rate.

“Another option might be to check if: The owner has their own website or social media. This can often be the cheapest option, as they don’t have to give up part of their fee to the platform.”
