Former NFL QB Impressed With Drake Maye’s Processing Speed

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye impressed media and fans alike when he demonstrated his football knowledge in the recent viral video of his pre-draft interview with the New York Giants.

Former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak was particularly impressed, complimenting the rookie on his processing speed.

The clip was shown on “Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants,” which provides a behind-the-scenes look at the franchise’s headquarters. Maye was shown in a recent episode correctly reading a play and literally reading it back to the Giants’ coaching staff.

“I would say yes, because they gave you eight seconds of information. That’s a lot of overload,” Zolak said on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Zolak & Bertrand.” “Gun, dolphin right, 72, tundra, float, h angle, ready break. And he’s got to go out there and put it on the wheel. ‘Yeah, I got it.’

“That’s one thing I learned about him: he’s very excitable. Like you can say, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, easy stuff.’ He’s a fast talker. When you’re a fast talker, you’re not slow, let me think as I talk, process it. He digested it fast, which is good. That’s fast, because it’s a lot of terminology at this level.”

Perhaps this is one of the things the Patriots saw in Maye that made him their top target in the draft.

Either way, this video shows that he’s picking things up quickly. That will certainly come in handy for a Patriots team that needs a quick spark at quarterback. At the very least, he seems to have a fan in Zolak.
