Major Injury Concerns Revealed in $90 Million NBA Free Agent

Major Injury Concerns Revealed in Million NBA Free Agent

On July 6, Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams signed a five-year, $90 million contract with the Chicago Bulls.

It seemed like a potentially solid deal for the Chicago Bulls. Especially since Williams is only 22 years old and fits into the youth movement the Bulls are trying to reach. With DeMar DeRozan gone, there is a legitimate opportunity for Williams to shine in a nice piece.

However, Williams underwent surgery on his foot that forced him to end the season. He had an edema in his bone that had kept him out since January 25. You would think that Williams would be ready for the 2024-25 NBA season now that the Chicago Bulls have re-signed him, but that does not appear to be the case.

According to a report from Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic, Patrick Williams has not yet recovered from his osseous edema injury. During a recent appearance on the Bernstein & Holmes show, Mayberry revealed the potentially unfortunate news for the Chicago Bulls.

“I’ve heard he’s still not healthy from his foot injury,” Mayberry said. “And so you wonder if there are issues with his body, if he’s going to be around for a long time. Not just with an injury, but with any injury that happens over the course of this new contract. There are some big questions that haunt Patrick Williams, even though he has the money.”

The Chicago Bulls are one of the unluckiest teams when it comes to injuries. The team is hoping for a fresh start after the dismissals of DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso, but with Patrick Williams still injured, it feels like things are going back to normal.
