‘Creative Crosswalk’ Draws Attention From Motorists In Youngstown, Ohio

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Drive into downtown Youngstown and you’ll see a very different kind of public art!

It’s called a “Creative Crosswalk” project. On Thursday, multiple agencies came together to paint a section of East Federal Street and Boardman Street. The goal is to make the area safer when events are planned in the area.

The paint is yellow now, but there will be color accents added. It will be very visual.

Adam Lee, director of Youngstown CityScape, says this is all intended to slow traffic.

“That will narrow the road, create on-street parking during the Youngstown Flea, for Penguin City on the weekends and also a temporary bike lane – to demonstrate the possibility, engage the community in re-engaging this part of the city for pedestrian safety, bike safety and overall better design for the community,” Lee said.

The creative zebra crossing will be finished on Friday. A ribbon cutting event is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Penguin City Brewing Company.
