AI launches baggage tracking feature on mobile app and website for improved travel experience

GURUGRAM: Air India, India’s largest global airline, has rolled out an easy-to-use baggage tracking feature on its mobile app and website. By leveraging real-time baggage tracking information available at its network airports and a scalable cloud application infrastructure, this capability keeps our guests connected with their baggage throughout the journey and significantly reduces the worries, if any, about their checked baggage. Air India is one of the few airlines in the world to offer this convenience directly to guests without any intervention from the airline staff.

Designed and developed by Air India’s digital technology and design teams, in collaboration with the airline’s airport operations department, the feature provides a convenient end-to-end baggage tracking option with minimal data entry. Guests can track their checked bags by simply scanning the barcode on their baggage receipts. Alternatively, this information will automatically be available in the ‘My Trips’ section of the mobile app shortly after the bag is checked in, if the trip has been added there. The feature is also available in the Book & Manage section of the Air India website under the ‘Track Your Baggage’ tab.

Other important aspects of this role include:

• Real-time updates: Key checked baggage details such as current location, transit status, baggage arrival details and local time of events are provided in an easy-to-read format. Status coverage includes all key baggage touchpoints where baggage tracking technology is available, such as check-in, security clearance, aircraft loading, transfer and arrival at the baggage claim area.

• Codeshare and Interline Flight Tracking: End-to-end baggage tracking is available for multiple flight segments on Air India. Additionally, if the journey includes segments on other airlines in interline or codeshare connections that are part of the same reservation, tracking of those segments is also provided.

• Comprehensive tracking: For guests with multiple checked bags, detailed tracking information for each bag is available on a single, easy-to-use interface. Timely notification is also provided via the mobile app when the bag is checked in. Enhanced coverage of notifications important to the tracking experience, such as baggage carousel information upon arrival, are also included in the

pipeline.
