App St. football player hits teammates with helmet during training: Viral video

It’s not uncommon for tempers to flare at football practice, but at a recent Appalachian State University practice game, a player became so upset that he threw his helmet at his own teammate.

This is according to a new video recently leaked on X that shows a play in which a defensive player rips the helmet off an offensive lineman’s head and hits him in the head with it.

When the leaked footage begins, the defender had already removed his helmet and was rolling around the field, likely having fallen off during a game at practice.

Appalachian State finished No. 1 in the Sun Belt football team’s preseason rankings and is expected to compete for a spot in the Group of Five in the expanded College Football Playoff.

Like many other football programs, Appalachian State wears protective Guardian Caps over their helmets. Hopefully that was enough to at least somewhat soften the blow to the player’s head.

The incident is reminiscent of another recent incident involving a helmet being swung. That incident occurred in 2019 when Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett struck Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.

However, the player responsible for this blatant assault is unlikely to be on the field for the team and will almost certainly face severe disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from the program.
