The Sun Belt Conference and App State have announced the conference schedule for 2024-25. The 18-game schedule includes nine games at the Holmes Convocation Center against conference opponents where the Mountaineers went undefeated last season.
The Mountaineers open Sun Belt play at Louisiana on Dec. 18 before hosting Troy for their conference home opener on Jan. 2.
Other home highlights include games against James Madison on Jan. 11 and Georgia State on Feb. 1, as well as a home game against Georgia Southern and Marshall on Feb. 20 and 22 to close out the home schedule.
App State will also welcome Southern Miss to the Holmes Center on Feb. 5. It will be the Golden Eagles’ first visit to the Holmes Center and their first trip to Boone since 1991.
Coach Kerns and his team will open the 2024-25 season on November 4 at the Holmes Center against the Miami (OH) RedHawks in the MAC-SBC Challenge. It will be the first meeting between the two teams.
According to the regular season schedule, the Mountaineers will travel to the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida, to participate in the Sun Belt Tournament, which is scheduled to begin on March 4, with the winner earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
The 2024-25 conference schedule includes 12 matchups against Sun Belt East Division opponents. The Mountaineers went undefeated against Sun Belt East opponents last season and have a 35-14 record (.714 winning percentage) against East Division opponents in the Dustin Kerns era.
App State will enter the 2024-25 season as the reigning Sun Belt league regular season champions after posting the best record in Sun Belt play at 16-2 last season. It was the program’s first regular season conference title since 1978-79. The Mountaineers were one of 13 teams in the country to record at least 16 conference wins in the 2023-24 season.
Additionally, the Mountaineers were one of 12 teams in NCAA Division I to go undefeated at home. Entering the 2024-25 season, the Mountaineers have the 10th longest home winning streak in the country and have not lost a game at the Holmes Convocation Center since February 18, 2023.
The 2024-25 roster will feature two veteran returners, CJ Huntley and Myles Tate, as well as a veteran group of freshmen and three newcomers. App State has posted a winning percentage of .500 or better for five consecutive seasons for the first time since 1987-92.
