The Campbell County Fiscal Court and Altafiber announced Wednesday that free public high-speed Wi-Fi is now available at Pendery Park, AJ Jolly Park and AJ Jolly Golf Course.
Visitors can now access the high-speed Wi-Fi network at the golf course clubhouse, designated areas of the parks and equestrian facilities, and campgrounds.
“Campbell County continues to lead the way in providing an even better experience for residents and visitors to our parks,” said Judge Executive Steve Pendery. “Visitors will now have access to their favorite music, videos, e-books and social media online as part of their park experience.”
Altafiber will manage the Wi-Fi networks in the county’s parks and golf course. John Putnam, director of sales at Altafiber, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to helping its partners get the most out of the technology.
“Altafiber’s Wi-Fi network provides connectivity to thousands of visitors to AJ Jolly Park and Pendery Park every day, but that’s only part of the benefit,” Putnam said. “When visitors sign up to the Wi-Fi network and opt in to receive messages, they will receive email notifications about park amenities, special offers and upcoming events, further enhancing the visitor experience.”
John B. Scola, director of Altafiber’s mobility program, added that the infrastructure will eventually enable Campbell County to add a full range of connectivity options, including sensors in the parks to monitor water levels and quality, air quality and the functionality of various devices.
The Campbell County Fiscal Court used funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for this partnership, which allows local governments to provide funding for high-speed internet. No Campbell County general funds were used for this project.
In addition to the Wi-Fi network, Altafiber will sponsor new signage at AJ Jolly Park and provide physical and digital maps to park visitors.
Campbell County’s parks offer a range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, as well as facilities for sporting events and gatherings. The county’s Pendery Park serves as a community center with sports fields, walking trails and picnic areas, making it an ideal location for local sports leagues and family reunions.
The 1,000-plus acre AJ Jolly Park features a large lake for fishing and kayaking, extensive hiking trails and well-equipped camping. The park is also home to the AJ Jolly Golf Course, an 18-hole course known for its scenery and challenging play.
