The Greater Midland Coleman Family Center helps families prepare for the school year with its annual backpack giveaway, held on August 14.
Families wishing to receive a free backpack full of school supplies must pre-register by calling 989-465-2079 before August 14. This offer is open to all families with students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
This year, the center has increased the number of backpacks provided from 100 to 200. Registration is open until all 200 spots are filled.
“(We want) to make sure that every child is prepared to return to school and that they have the right tools and equipment they need to be successful,” said Andrea Conquest, executive director of the Coleman Family Center.
To register, families must provide the name, gender and age of the student. The backpacks are divided into age categories.
“We have the more kid-friendly models for elementary school that have crayons and colored pencils in them, and then we have the backpacks for high school that are more solid colored and age-appropriate and have calculators, pens and pencils in them,” Conquest said.
The raffle, which will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., will also feature outdoor games and activities, a hot dog cookout provided by the United Methodist Men’s Club and free vision screenings provided by the Coleman Lions Club.
The backpacks are provided by Coleman Community of Christ, One Church and Coleman Faith United Methodist Church.
