DeWine declares state of emergency for eight Ohio counties, including Trumbull

TRUMBULL CO., Ohio (WKBN) – Trumbull County is one of eight counties administered by the Governor of Ohio. Mike DeWine A state of emergency was declared following Tuesday’s storms, which brought tornadoes and left hundreds of thousands of people in northeast Ohio without power for days.

The counties are Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Portage, Summit and Trumbull.

“This declaration of emergency gives the state the ability to provide rapid assistance to these communities. At this time, we do not have any open requests for services the state can provide to our communities following these storms. However, we are here for the duration of the emergency measures and will continue to help Northeast Ohio communities recover from the damage left by the storm if we receive new requests for services the state can provide,” DeWine said in a press release.

According to the press release, DeWine has also asked Ohio Emergency Management Director Sima Merick to direct the Federal Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to conduct a damage assessment in northeast Ohio.

The press release states that the Ohio EMA has been working closely with affected county EMAs to provide assistance and assess damage for possible reimbursements. Homeowners, businesses, renters and organizations are asked to contact their respective county emergency management agencies for damage assessments.

DeWine also asked residents to give local craftsmen space to carry out repair work in residential areas.
