Drake admitted that “Too Good” is about Serena Williams: Video

Since May, Kendrick Lamar has made it impossible to mention Drake outside of the context of his feud with Kendrick Lamar, which Lamar won pretty much unanimously. This week, Drake provided plenty of new talking points by uploading three unreleased songs — “It’s Up” featuring 21 Savage and Young Thug, “Housekeeping Knows” featuring Latto, and “Blue Green Red” — alongside various unreleased content from his past archives. The dump is known as “100 Gigs,” and is being touted as “100 gigs for your headtop.”

A behind-the-scenes video in particular caught the viewers’ attention. reposted on X (formerly Twitter) by someone named Ahmed.

In the video, Drake is seen in the studio smoking a hookah while “Too Good” plays. “This is more about me and Serena,” Drake said, referring to tennis legend Serena Williams. “It’s funny because when I write songs about women, I also write songs for them, so I know what kind of song to write – if I’m talking about them, at least I’m doing them justice by writing them a song that they like.”

He continued, “So I know Serena very well and I know she’s going to hear it loud and clear, but she’s not going to hate me for it either because it’s lighthearted.”

Drake spoke to his mother, Sandi Graham, who was out of camera view. She added, “And she’s seeing someone else.” Drake responded exasperatedly, “I don’t know, Mom.”

“Too Good,” featuring Rihanna, another of Drake’s ex-girlfriends, was released in early 2016. Drake’s newly released video did not include a date, but there were brief rumors that he was romantically involved with Williams in 2015. Williams was dating Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, her husband of nearly seven years, in late 2015.

We already knew that at least one song was at least partially directed at Williams. On “Middle Of The Ocean” from Drake and 21 Savage’s 2022 joint album Your lossDrake rapped, “Side note, Serena, your man is a groupie / He claims we don’t have a problem but / Nah, boohoo, it’s like you came for sushi.” Ohanian seemed to respond, writing on X, “The reason I’m still winning is because I relentlessly strive to be the absolute best at everything I do – including being the best groupie for my wife and daughter.”

Last month, Williams hosted the 2024 ESPY Awards and playfully took a swipe at Drake during her opening monologue.

“If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us – not one of us, not even me – should ever start a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion said. “He’s going to make your hometown not like you anymore. The next time Drake sits courtside at a (Toronto) Raptors game, they’re going to play him like Forrest Gump. ‘Court’s taken!'”
