drake has gifted fans with tons of new material. On Tuesday, Drake launched a website with 100 gigabytes with music, demos and behind-the-scenes footage. Many of the video clips are years old and show how he made some of his viral music videos and how some of his biggest songs came about.
In one of the videos, Drake shows his mother Sandra one of the songs from his 2016 album, Views – a collaboration with Rihanna called “Too Good”.

In the song, Drake sings, “I wanna tell you my intentions / I wanna do the things I mention / I wanna benefit from the friendship / I wanna get the late night message from you, from you / I put my hands around you / I gotta get a hold of you.” When the song was released, there was a lot of speculation about who the song was actually about – many believed that it might be about Rihanna herself, as the two were in a romantic relationship at the time.
In the clip, however, he reveals that the song is about Serena Williams, who he was rumored to be dating around 2015.
“This (song) is more about me and Serena,” Drake said.
Since a mother’s intuition is always right, Sandra replies, “That’s what I thought.”
Drake further explains that he has no bad intentions with the song and is confident that Williams will like the song.
“It’s funny because when I write songs about women, I’m also writing songs for them,” Drake said. “So I know what kind of song to write – if I’m talking about them, at least I’m doing them justice by writing them a song that they like. OK? … I know Serena very well and I know she’s going to hear it loud and clear, but she’s also not going to hate me for it because it’s lighthearted.”
Then Sandra reminded Drake: “She’s seeing someone else.”
The “someone else” mentioned above was likely her current husband Alexis Ohanian, as Williams and Ohanian were engaged in late 2016.
Even though Williams has never commented directly on the song, it is safe to say that there is no friendly relationship between the two.
Drake would later diss Ohanian on the 2022 track “Middle of the Ocean” from Drake’s collaboration album Your loss with 21 Savage. In the song, Drake raps: “Side note, Serena, your man is a groupie / He says we ain’t got a problem, but / Nah, boo, it’s like you come eat sushi.”
Almost two years later Kendrick Lamar defended Williams on his 2024 Drake diss track “Not Like Us” and warned him: “From Alondra down to the center, you better not talk about Serena.”
Williams also insulted Drake at the 2024 ESPY Awards last monthand calls on him in the opening monologue.
Although this lesson must be learned eight years after the release of “Too Good,” the answer is simple: Drake wants nothing to do with the greatest athlete in the world.
