JAMESTOWN – The Enderlin Indies continued to battle on their way to a back-and-forth 11-10 overtime victory over the Cass County Catfish in the championship game of the AA State Amateur Baseball Tournament on Sunday, Aug. 11, at Jack Brown Stadium.
The Catfish took an early lead when Max Kobbervig scored a run on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead in the first. The Indies had a chance to tie the game in the second, but left runners on second and third base, so the game remained the same.
The Indies decided the game in the second inning when they scored seven runs on five hits, two walks, one error and two wild pitches to extend their lead to 7-1. After the Indies extended it to 9-1, the Catfish were able to get a point back in the fifth inning with a double by Keegan Neva to reduce their deficit to 9-2.
Not one to give up and accept the loss in this game, the Catfish regained the momentum with two crucial outs in the sixth inning. With two outs in the inning and a runner on third base, the Catfish’s Sam Kobbervig came in and hit a single to make it 9-3. From there, they held on and scored six more runs to tie the game at 9-9.
The score remained that way until the eighth inning, when the Catfish’s Jack Metzger hit a double off the right wall to bring home the ghost runner from second base and give his team the 10-9 lead. The Indies, however, were undeterred, bringing home the ghost runner with a double and then had first and second base with two outs for Andrew Thompson, who hit a single up the middle to score the run and give his team the 11-10 walk-off victory.
