Fort Wayne mayor asks for time to examine video of FWPD arrest, but holds back on judgment

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The woman arrested in a video that circulated on social media Monday appeared in court Wednesday morning and faces four charges following her arrest. The video has left the family with many questions and Mayor Sharon Tucker is asking the community to give them time to investigate.

In a video captured by a witness and widely shared on social media, Wills can be seen arresting Tyjana Smith alongside FWPD Officer Matt Pierr. The video has prompted some social media users to question Wills’ actions.

Wills fails to mention that one of the officers struck Smith, which is seen several times in the witness video of the arrest shown above.

Smith is scheduled to have an initial hearing in her newly filed case Wednesday morning. She is charged with resisting police and assault on a public safety officer.

She is also accused of driving while her license is revoked and refusing to identify herself.
