Iran wants to hold Israel accountable for its aggression

Bagheri Kani made these remarks on Saturday evening in a telephone conversation with his Belgian counterpart Hadja Lahbib.

In line with the defense of its national security, territorial integrity and national sovereignty, the Islamic Republic of Iran will make the aggressor Israeli regime pay the price for its aggression in a legitimate and decisive action, based on international law and procedures and the United Nations Charter, Bagheri Kani said.

The senior Iranian diplomat further stressed that the criminal Zionist regime has violated the stability and security of the West Asian region by attacking a school in the Gaza Strip and martyring innocent people worshipping at the site, attacking a residential area in Beirut and assassinating former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

For her part, Lahbib said Brussels was concerned about the deteriorating situation in the West Asia region.

She expressed her support for the right of the Palestinian people to determine their own future and condemned the construction of the Zionist settlements. She added that Belgium supports the rights of Palestinian refugees while trying to impose sanctions against the extremist Zionist settlers.

Lahabib stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and underlined that all parties should exercise maximum restraint in view of the deteriorating situation in the region. In this context, the continuation of consultations between Tehran and Brussels is emphasized.

Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in Tehran on July 31 when their residence was attacked, the IRGC said in a statement.

In a statement on Saturday, it said the assassination of Ismail Haniya was “planned and carried out by the Zionist regime and supported by the criminal government of America.”

In their reaction to the Israeli act of terror, senior Iranian officials vowed to give the Zionist regime a befitting response. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, stated that by assassinating Ismail Haniyeh, the Israeli regime had prepared the ground for harsh punishment for itself.

On Saturday, the political adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that preparations were underway to severely punish a regime that only understands the language of violence.

The Israeli regime’s only aim in killing the believers of the Al-Tabin school in the Gaza Strip and murdering the martyr Ismail Haniyeh in Iran was to start a war and cause the ceasefire negotiations to fail, Shamkhani wrote.

Following the legal, diplomatic and media processes, preparations have been made for severe punishment of the Israeli regime, he added.
