Reality TV star Joanna Gaines couldn’t resist leaving a little something of herself in her eldest son Drake’s apartment. When she moved him into his new home and decorated the apartment, she made sure to put one of her own cookbooks in the kitchen.
Gaines claims it was intended to add a “splash of color.”

Although the Gaines matriarch doesn’t share too many photos of her children on social media, she took the time to mention the big move in her Instagram stories.
“College apartment move-in day,” Joanna writes in her Instagram stories along with a photo of a large package of ranch dressing in her son’s otherwise empty fridge.
After all, it’s about what’s important.
Additionally, her followers were able to get a glimpse of Drake’s new apartment. In case you’re wondering if the space looks like one of the staged homes from the show, it does. The living room feels both cozy and masculine, with the feel of an industrial farmhouse.
Joanna decorated with several books, candles, knick-knacks, and possibly (accidentally) a drinking game. While she calls the ring toss game “good old fun,” Drake says it could be used for something else entirely.
The final video the media mogul included was a special piece of art that featured an inspirational message from Major League Baseball legend Babe Ruth.
“Never let fear of failure stop you from playing,” reads the wooden sign.
Drake is preparing for his sophomore year at Baylor University, the same school his parents attended.
Who are Chip and Joanna Gaines’ children?
Chip and Joanna Gaines have five children: Drake (19), Ella (17), Duke (16), Emmie (14) and Crew (6). The fact that their eldest child is going to college has given the couple a new outlook on life.
“I think the greatest gift of having a child go to college and having a five-year-old toddler is the perspective that it’s not here forever,” said Joanna People in 2023. “Don’t take it for granted and appreciate these moments. And that’s what this 5-year-old is teaching me.”
“When you consider that Drakey is going to college, you turn your attention to Crew, who is at the end of all of this,” Chip says. “And you kind of live very consciously because you know – which is so hard to believe when you’re holding a one-year-old – ‘Oh, this time is going to go by fast.'”
“Because back then, it seems like time stood still, but then when you see your son actually going to college – well, you definitely turn your attention to little Crew and basically want to live as if he’s going to college tomorrow so we can enjoy and cherish every moment,” he adds.
