“He’s seen me at my best and my worst, so when he says everything looks good and looks healthy, those are really valuable words of encouragement,” Paddack said. His 88 innings pitched, he said, a season after throwing just 8⅔ while recovering from elbow surgery, are probably a success, although it’s only half as many as Paddack had hoped.
Now the right-hander, who is on the injured list because of a forearm strain, is working with the Twins on a plan that will hopefully allow him to return sometime in September — though likely to the bullpen, not the rotation. He hopes to start a throwing program in about two weeks, he said.
“My goal is to be back this year. I’m just going to take it day by day and make sure we do everything we can from here on out,” said Paddack, who posted a 4.99 ERA and had 79 strikeouts in 17 starts. “As we complete the next 50 or 60 days, I’m going to do everything I can to contribute to this team.”
