Leaked US prices show Google’s new Pixel 9 Pro models won’t be cheap

This article is about a developing story. Check back with us often as we will add more information as it becomes available.

Summary

  • The new Pixel 9 Pro models from Google come in a smaller version and a larger “Pro XL” model.
  • A price leak from T-Mobile suggests the Pixel 9 Pro will start at $1,000 in the US, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL will cost $1,200.
  • Google is also introducing the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a sequel to the original Pixel Fold, but its US pricing was not revealed in this leak.

We knew Google’s Pixel 9 Pro models wouldn’t be cheap—after all, the Pixel 8 Pro started at a thousand dollars in the US. But this year, Google is making some changes to its Pro lineup, adding a smaller variant that now takes over the standard Pro model, while the larger one is rebranded as the Pro XL. And that’s without even mentioning the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which is Google’s successor to the original Pixel Fold.

Now a price leak gives us an idea of how expensive some of these Pro models will be in the US.

A poster on Reddit has revealed T-Mobile’s apparent pricing for the Google Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL in different storage variants. According to the leak, the Pixel 9 Pro will start at $1,000, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a starting price of $1,200.

This would effectively equate to a $200 price increase for the larger Pro model.

At first glance, that seems like a natural fit, considering last year’s Pro model also started at $1,000. But the Pixel 9 Pro XL will be the direct sequel to the Pixel 8 Pro and is said to have a starting price of $1,200. Essentially, Google is hiding a price increase for the series by shoving the smaller Pixel 9 Pro into the slot formerly reserved for its largest, most expensive phone.

These numbers line up with the European price leak we saw earlier – although prices don’t exactly match up due to local tariffs and other factors, according to that leak, the Pixel 9 Pro also matched the MSRP of the Pixel 8 Pro, with the 9 Pro XL costing a bit more.

For reference, according to the European price leak, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be priced at the same level as the original Pixel Fold, which retailed for $1,800 in the US.
