Mostly dry at the beginning of the week, rain is expected later in the week

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) – Although it was cloudy at times and there were occasional showers, the weekend in Central Michigan wasn’t too bad.

Autumn lovers have even had a little taste of autumn in the last few days, as temperatures have risen to 15 to 20 degrees most of the time. And let’s not forget the fresh westerly wind on Saturday! But summer is not over yet. And it looks like we are in for a lot of sunshine and temperatures between 25 and 25 degrees.

But for those who could use some rain, we’re setting our sights on the end of the week. For your full weekly forecast, check out your 7-day forecast from TV5 First Alert!

Tonight and overnight

A few showers are still possible here and there through sunset tonight. We’re not expecting widespread rain, but there is a chance for isolated showers, particularly along the Thumb. Precipitation amounts should be fairly light (less than 0.10 inches) in most cases.

Temperatures will be between 15 and 21 degrees Celsius in the evening.

The skies will clear up during the night, and overnight it will be mostly clear to partly cloudy. Temperatures will be between 10 and 15 degrees in most areas tonight, with temperatures around 15 degrees possible near the water. There will be a light wind blowing from the northwest to the west.

Monday

Monday should start with glorious sunshine as our skies clear from Sunday evening. However, some cumulus clouds are expected to develop during the day. Most areas should remain dry at the start of the week, however.

There is a slight chance of rain in the afternoon as there is a convergence (collision) between inland winds and a breeze off the lake. These collisions may be enough to create enough upwelling for a few showers to break through. Assuming this happens, widespread shower coverage is not expected.

On Monday, maximum temperatures in most areas should rise again to 21 degrees, in some areas even to 27 degrees, with light west-northwest winds of about 8 to 16 kilometers per hour.

Any showers should ease by Monday night as the daytime heat subsides. Lows will remain at 10 degrees Monday night.

Chance of rain at the end of the week: First thoughts

Our next chance of rain that looks to be a significant one comes late in the week, around Friday. Some of the earliest forecasts are for Thursday night (overnight). A low pressure system is expected to form and bring a more organized chance of rain to the region, which could help areas that dry out quickly.

Towards the end of the week the probability of rain will be higher again.

There is a chance this system could “hold out” for a few more days into Sunday, possibly Monday, but that is not set in stone. One factor that seems to favor this scenario is a potential tropical system moving across the Atlantic, which could potentially cause a “traffic jam” in the upper atmosphere that somewhat slows the movement of systems across the United States from west to east.

Rainfall amounts do not appear to be of concern at this time, but they could exceed 0.50 inches if the system persists long enough.

If you have plans for next weekend, don’t worry just yet. Even if the system is in the area, that doesn’t mean the weekend will be a washout. However, there is currently a chance of more rain than we saw this weekend.

We will keep you updated!
