Newark Wayne Community Hospital recently hosted a MedQuest Career Camp, giving local high school students hands-on experience in the healthcare field. Organized by Rochester Regional Health, the event brought together 14 students from across the region for a day of workshops and lectures covering topics from emergency care and infection prevention to radiology and neonatal simulation. Participants also explored various therapies and toured a Mercy Flight Central helicopter.
Dr. Dustin Fanciullo, chief of surgery, emphasized the program’s role in community engagement and education. “MedQuest is an important way for Rochester Regional Health to invest in our future health care professionals,” said Fanciullo, who led a workshop on surgical suturing. Dr. Brian Watkins, another RRH surgeon, demonstrated laparoscopic techniques using modern equipment.
The camp is designed to inspire students by giving them insight into various careers in healthcare. “Our goal is for participants to develop a deeper understanding of the opportunities in healthcare and enjoy the experience,” says RRH nursing instructor Dena Chapman.
