No water at Lucas County Recreation Center

LUCAS Co., Ohio (WTVG) – The Lucas County Recreation Center has been without water since October of last year. County Commissioner Lisa Sobecki said there is a leak on the property.

There are signs around the toilets on the leisure center’s playing fields that say “Do not use water.”

β€œThis happens to only be available on our softball baseball fields,” said Denny Rose of the Suburban Girls Softball League.

District leaders noticed that they were losing 10,000 gallons of water every day.

“We don’t want that much water to be lost without knowing where it is. So they shut the water off. They worked with the Suburban Girls Softball League. That’s the managing partner. We let them know we’re trying to track down the leak,” said County Commissioner Lisa Sobecki.

Sobecki said they hired two companies, but the contractors were unable to pinpoint the source of the leak.

They are trying to avoid the cost of tearing up the asphalt.

“We try to avoid that route because it’s very, very expensive. You can rip up a section where you think it’s going to be and that’s not the right place, and then you have to go to another place,” Sobecki said.

Sobecki said they provided portable toilets, several cases of water and pre-packaged food for people working at the food stands. She said county commissioners have not discussed demolishing the recreation center.
