OBITUARY

Wayne Lindquist passed away at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88. He was born in Berkeley, California to Elmer and Thena Lindquist and two older siblings, sister Leona and brother Irwin. Wayne graduated from San Leandro High School where he met the love of his life, Isabel, while both worked for the school newspaper, The Cargo. After graduation, he attended San Francisco State College. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and, after a two-year tour of duty in Korea, returned home where he graduated from Cal State, Hayward, earning his bachelor’s degree. Wayne and Isabel were married in 1957 at St. Leander’s Church in San Leandro and remained together for over 67 years until his passing. Their marriage was filled with love, much travel, lasting friendships and a home surrounded by family and friends on birthdays and holidays. He built his career in San Leandro with Willamette Industries as a Human Resources Manager and retired after over 30 years with the company. He was well respected by his co-workers and was greatly missed after his retirement. Everyone who knew Wayne knew what a great golfer he was. In addition to a long list of accomplishments, he held the course record at Lake Chabot Golf Course with a score of 64 at just 16 years old. His study contains many trophies and photos of his golf memories. He enjoyed the game for many years and was especially happy when his grandson Robert joined him on the course. Wayne and Isabel traveled extensively with friends and family. They loved to travel by cruise ship and their travels together took them to over 20 countries and countless islands. Wayne and Isabel’s beloved daughter Lori, as well as his sister Leona and brother Irwin, predeceased him. He is survived by his beloved wife Isabel, his grandson Robert and Robert’s wife Alicia, and his cherished great-grandson Joseph Wayne. He is also remembered by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services with military honors were held July 20 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at Massimo’s Restaurant in Fremont. He lived his life well.
