Ohio Task Force 1 remains ready for the second landfall of Tropical Storm Debby

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Ohio Task Force 1 is ready in case assistance is needed as Tropical Storm Debby hits the East Coast. Tropical Storm Debby is expected to gain strength in the Atlantic and make landfall on the southeast coast of the United States for the second time Wednesday evening.

Ohio Task Force 1 consists of 47 members, two police dogs and 50 tons of equipment. Task force leader Adam Landis said the team trained for several days to prepare for possible deployments.

“Yesterday morning we covered communications and the intricacies of our dedicated team radios. Our hazardous materials team reviewed decontamination procedures and equipment. Then our planning team conducted extensive training on SARCOP and data collection – an important part of our search and rescue toolkit,” said Landis.

The team is already on the east coast and ready for any tasks that arise.

“(The team is) in good spirits and ready to go to work and represent Ohio,” Landis said.

In addition, three additional task forces were activated: Pennsylvania Task Force 1, New Jersey Task Force 1 and Missouri Task Force 1.
