Next week there will be a ribbon cutting at one of Wayne County’s new playgrounds.
East Germantown, also known as Pershing, will celebrate its new playground on Thursday, August 15th at 3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
“We look forward to celebrating with all of our neighbors,” said Sheila Mills, who supported the fundraiser.
The playground is located next to the Wayne Bank Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County, 519 Queen St., the former Western Wayne Schools administration building, north of U.S. 40 and west of the city’s traffic light.
East Germantown’s colorful playground equipment on almost 280 square meters of newly paved play area offers children the opportunity to climb, slide and swing. Other new features include two basketball hoops and the renovation of the existing basketball court.
The renovated facilities will encourage all Wayne County residents to get out and explore other parts of the county that do not charge admission and possibly make new friends.
Raising approximately $105,000 for the East Germantown project was a county-wide and state-wide effort.
The Economic Development Corp. and the Wayne County Foundation each donated $10,000, and $5,000 came from Western Wayne Affordable Housing, SugarCreek Packing and Reid Health. Many other donations from residents, businesses and groups ranged from $15 to $2,500.
The Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority contributed $50,000.
New playgrounds will also be added in Milton, Economy, Dublin and Cambridge City later this year.
