PEP GUARDIOLA says he has to decide what he wants to do with his life – after Wayne Rooney touted him as a candidate to become England manager.
The Three Lions will be able to rely on U21 coach Lee Carsley for their games in September – although Gareth Southgate’s long-term successor has not yet been decided.
Guardiola – who has spent the last eight years at Manchester City – would be a dream job, even if it wouldn’t be cheap.
The City boss is in the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad and is keeping all options open.
When asked about his England career, he said: “I have to decide what I want to do in my life.”
“Whether I want to continue here, take a break, coach national teams or not – there are many possibilities.”
Guardiola admits he can’t wait to get going again after watching most of his squad return to training this week.
He added: “Right now I’m here and when I get to the competitions my energy goes up again, so I’m really looking forward to the season because I see things that I like.
“We will see, it is a new challenge if we can break our own records.
“Last season we broke the record, no one has ever done that before.

“We will see what the ambition is. I look forward to us all coming back together and restarting and we will see how we will behave every day.”
Pep’s four Euro 2024 finalists – Rodri, Phil Foden, John Stones and Kyle Walker – are expected to start training again early next week.
