Recreational marijuana now legal in Ohio

This week, recreational marijuana was legalized in Ohio. There are 98 dispensaries throughout the Buckeye State where you can buy weed, one of which is in Scioto County.

When Backroad Wellness in New Boston, Ohio, opened on the first day it was legally allowed to sell recreational marijuana, people literally camped out the door. That day, they say, sales tripled. General manager Laura Adkins expects sales to quadruple, possibly even more.

“They’re just common sense regulations that make it the same as alcohol. As long as you’re 21 or older, you can come in with a valid ID and buy,” Adkins said.

“She says customers should be reminded that there are still legal issues involved in purchasing marijuana. While purchasing and consuming it is legal in Ohio, it is not legal to take the product across state lines.”

“Where you consume this after you leave here is up to you, so it’s legal. In Ohio, recreational cannabis is legal. In West Virginia, it’s not legal. In Kentucky, it’s not legal. At the federal level, it’s not legal, so transporting it across state lines is not legal,” Adkins said.

“I think it’s going to bring a lot of changes in a positive way,” said Andrew Parker of Scioto County. “For recreational use, I don’t think there’s much difference. Maybe the effect is stronger for medicinal purposes, but it’s the same stuff,” Parker said.

“I think the other businesses in the area where a pharmacy is located will benefit as well. People will stop by gas stations, supermarkets and restaurants,” Adkins said.

Final marijuana regulations are expected to be released in September.
