Repairs on Pittsburgh Crosstown Boulevard cause traffic problems

PITTSBURGH, PA — PennDOT’s plans to repair a large hole that appeared on the Crosstown Boulevard ramp to Boulevard of the Allies on Monday will result in detours and likely traffic problems over the weekend.

The work begins on Friday.

On Monday, a steel plate was placed over the hole as reports emerged that daylight and exposed rebar were visible under the ramp. The ramp installation required a temporary closure of the ramp while the plate was installed.

According to PennDOT, the problem does not pose a danger to passing motorists.

The ramp is closed from Thursday 8pm to 6am.

Adding to the traffic problems is an additional lane closure on the Parkway East toward Birmingham Bridge around the clock – from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday – due to painting work.

PennDOT designated detour due to work on Crosstown Boulevard:
