SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – More than 500 Riley High School graduates gathered at St. Hedwig Memorial Center on Saturday to celebrate and participate in the annual Riley After 50th reunion.
“It’s about being a Riley Wildcat and seeing all these people,” said Dave Murray, president of Riley After 50 Alumni. “Meeting old friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, old classmates. Several teachers have joined us.”
Proud graduates from various classes since 1944 came together to remember the glory days and celebrate what it means to be a Riley Wildcat.
“Tonight we celebrate our 39th annual reunion,” Murray said. “We’re bringing together all the classes that graduated 50 years ago or more.”
The ballroom was packed as hundreds of classmates sat down for dinner, and a raffle was held to give away $200 in gift cards.
In addition, two scholarships valued at $2,000 were awarded to recent Riley graduates.
Alaiana Delater was one of the recipients. The money will help her purchase books and courses as she begins her nursing studies at Indiana University.
She talked about what it’s like to be attending the event now as a Wildcat alumnus.
“It’s great,” she said. “It’s nice that it happens every year and you have the opportunity to get to know your classmates.”
In addition to the reunion, it is important to mention that Riley High School is turning 100 years old this year.
