SC Afterschool Alliance offers high school students free help with FAFSA applications for college

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – The South Carolina Afterschool Alliance (SCAA) announced Wednesday that it is offering sessions to help South Carolina high school students complete financial aid applications.

SCAA is an official partner of the U.S. Department of Education and is committed to improving the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms, which can help students finance their education.

FAFSA can provide loans, grants, scholarships and work-study programs that can help cover tuition, housing, books and more. The alliance said FAFSA completions in South Carolina declined 11% last year.

During August and September, students can schedule appointments at community events in select counties to receive in-person assistance in completing their FAFSA application.

SCAA said details of each event will be posted on its website and social media feeds.

“It’s not too late for students to complete the FAFSA form and receive student aid,” said Zelda Waymer, president and CEO of SCAA. “Previous issues with the form that caused delays for students have been resolved, and our team is here to help students get the financial aid they need to achieve their dreams.”
