SmileHub examined all 50 states, looking at three main dimensions – religious interest and places of worship, religious education and careers, and religious organizations – using 11 key metrics.
In addition to being one of the states with the best protections for religious freedom, Ohio is also ranked as the 18th most religious state in the United States. The Buckeye State achieved an overall score of 49.70 out of 100.
Additionally, the group ranks 20th in religious interest and places of worship, 19th in religious education and careers, and 9th in religious organizations.
Ohio also ranks fourth in the number of religious institutions.
Rankings in the Midwest: How Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan performed
Some states in the Midwest are considered somewhat more religious than Ohio.
Indiana (7th place) and Pennsylvania (8th place) landed in the top 10.
Not far from Ohio’s ranking is Illinois at number 15. Kentucky also joins the ranks of the Midwestern states and is the 20th most religious state.
Michigan (No. 22) and Wisconsin (No. 28) ranked in the middle of the pack.
