Student leaders in Ohio are urged to “bloom” for Christ

By KEITH HURT, Ohio Baptist State Convention

During the last week of June, Super Summer Ohio welcomed 450 student and adult leaders to Cedarville University for a week of leadership training and development.

Super Summer Ohio is SCBO’s student leadership program for students in eighth grade through the beginning of their sophomore year of college.

For the past 23 years, Super Summer has been raising the next generation of leaders. The students who attend Super Summer have been identified by their church leaders as people with a love for Jesus and a passion to change the world for Him.

The task of challenging the students in their faith fell to Dan Dewitt, executive director of the Center for Worldview and Culture at Southwest Baptist University.

Dewitt’s theme for the week was “Thriving,” based on Colossians 2:6-7: “As you therefore received Christ Jesus as Lord, so walk in him, rooted and grounded in him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, and abounding in thankfulness.”

Words cannot describe the sight of student leaders from across Ohio coming to each meeting hungry to draw closer to Jesus.

Students also grew closer to Jesus through worship, which is also a central part of Super Summer. Each of the seven age groups has its own worship leader and all groups come together for worship every night.

Our worship team for the week was TakeHeart, led by Noah Ayers. There were moments during the week when the singers stopped singing to listen to the passionate, uninhibited worship of the students.

There were 10 decisions for salvation, 22 decisions for baptism, 35 commitments to full-time service, and 60 decisions to missions.

Please pray that God will continue to raise up leaders for His Church through Super Summer. For more information about Super Summer, visit https://supersummerohio.com/. Please take just five minutes to watch a summary video of Super Summer Ohio 2024: https://supersummerohio.com/2024-recap-videos.
