The tax-free weekend ended Sunday evening and in many school districts classes will begin again on Monday morning.
Classes begin on Monday in the following school districts:
- Alamo Heights ISD
- Boerne ISD
- Harlandale ISD
- Northeast ISD
- South San Antonio ISD
- Southside ISD
We spoke to parents and students who were doing their shopping for the new school year during the tax-free weekend. They told us they weren’t ready for the new school year yet, but the tax-free weekend at least helped their wallets.
“My wife and I both work and don’t have much time for the children. The last three months when they were on holiday were nice, now we are looking forward to the new school year,” says Vikram Rao, whose daughter is in the 7th grade.
Rao’s daughter will start classes soon. Although Rao said the summer has flown by, he admits the tax-free weekend will make his money last longer.
“This really helps us a lot and we can probably buy more things for the school with the taxable amount,” Rao said.
A similar story happens to Earren Allen and Cheyenne Birk, who are beginning their third year of college.
“We don’t buy much, so probably just a few dollars, but it’s still helpful since we’re college students,” Birk said.
Now that they have the materials they need, Allen and Birk say the main thing is to prepare mentally for the new semester.
“Getting back into the routine, getting up early and starting to take on more responsibility at work, school and things outside of life, you know?” Allen asked.
