Three centre-backs Bayern Munich can sign as replacements for Matthijs de Ligt

The first player on the list could be a long-term option for Bayern at centre-back. The Bavarian club need not look further than the Bundesliga to replace Matthijs de Ligt. Mohamed Simakan of RB Leipzig could be a suitable player for the Reds to strengthen their defence.

Simakan played regularly for RB Leipzig last season. The French centre-back played 31 league games for Leipzig last season. He is a robust defender who wins most of his aerial and ground duels against strikers. Simakan is also good on the ball and can help his team play out from the back. The 24-year-old defender is good at carrying the ball from deep to drive play forward. Simakan can also contribute with goals and assists, having had six goal involvements last season.

The French defender will not need much time to settle in, as he has already played three seasons in the Bundesliga. Simakan is approaching the best years of his career, which makes him a perfect long-term option for Bayern. He can be part of the Reds’ backbone for at least the next five seasons.

From a financial perspective, Bayern will have to pay a significant sum (€50-60 million) for Simakan as his contract with RB Leipzig expires in 2027. If Bayern are looking for a right-footed centre-back in the long term, Simakan is the ideal choice. (Stats courtesy of Whoscored)
