Post-tropical cyclone Debby brings wind and rain to the Poconos
Debby, now a post-tropical cyclone, will bring wind and rain to the Poconos on Friday, August 9, 2024.
The tornado warning for the Poconos, which was initially in effect until 2 p.m., now remains in effect until 10 p.m.
A tornado warning means that weather conditions could produce tornadoes, while a tornado warning means that a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar.
As Debby, now a post-tropical cyclone, moves north, there is a possibility of flooding through Friday evening.
“Heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Debby will bring rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts of 3 to 5 inches or more,” the National Weather Service said in a flood warning for Carbon and Monroe counties.
Shortly after 2 p.m., a flash flood warning was issued for Wayne County and was in effect until 5:30 p.m.
“Between 2.5 and 3 inches of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is currently occurring or is expected to begin shortly,” the National Weather Service said.
A flood warning is also in effect for Pike and Wayne counties until Friday evening.
