KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A new school bus tracking app is now available for parents in Kanawha County.
It’s called “Zonar My View”.
Jason Redman, director of transportation for Kanawha County Schools, said, “Parents, students and grandparents will be able to track the GPS location of school buses as they pick up students in the morning or drop them off at home in the afternoon.”
To track a bus and ensure student safety, parents need a specific code for their child’s bus and must enter specific information about their child.
“So you need to know the student’s registration number, first name and first letter of the last name,” Redman said.
Kanawha County Schools not only provides students with the opportunity to know exactly when their bus will arrive, but they also have the opportunity to provide targeted information to those who need it.
“We can communicate within the app. So we can give targeted information. For example, if a bus, say 1904, is not running today, we can change that in our system and say that 1905 is picking up your students. Then we can automatically change it on our side and they can see that bus 1905 is coming to pick them up,” Redman said.
After a trial run at South Charleston High School in the spring received positive feedback, Redman said the decision was made to roll out the solution nationwide.
