Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune) – Trevecca Nazarene University is offering a free, video-based financial literacy training to equip participants with skills, knowledge and behaviors that will enable them to make smart, informed money decisions. The training series is designed specifically for pastors, church leaders and nonprofit managers, but is available to anyone who wants to gain knowledge and training on personal finance. It also meets the educational requirements for participants in the Compass Initiative, which helps pastors reduce debt and prepare for retirement.
The fully online, customized training covers personal and organizational financial management, budgeting, entrepreneurship, and retirement strategies. It is taught by Trevecca professors of economics and theology and other subject matter experts in the financial field. The training is offered in four sections and can be fully completed in approximately six weeks.
Students who complete the financial literacy training are also eligible for a 10 percent tuition scholarship that can be used toward most online and graduate programs at Trevecca.
“Our goal with this training is to help pastors, leaders and others faithfully and skillfully steward the resources entrusted to them and help their congregations thrive,” said Dr. Tim Gaines, associate professor of religion at Trevecca, who led the training. “With this series of trainings, Trevecca aims to help church leaders reduce debt, prepare well for retirement and help their organizations find solid financial footing.”
