Serghei Spivac closed the show with a big finish, but wins were few and far between during the UFC’s recent visit to APEX.
The lack of memorable moments resulted in the UFC handing out one less bonus than usual: Spivac, Youssef Zalal and Toshiomi Kazama each received a $50,000 bonus for “Performance of the Night.”
No Fight of the Night was awarded for Saturday’s event.
Spivac avenged a February 2020 loss to Marcin Tybura in the heavyweight main event, when he needed less than two minutes to land an armbar that forced Tybura to submit for the first time in his 13-year career. The win was Spivac’s fourth in his last four fights, and afterward he called on the UFC to face him with an opponent that would move him further up the rankings.
This is Spivac’s second Performance of the Night bonus, having also received one for a first-round submission of Derrick Lewis last February.
Zalal and Kazama both earned the first bonuses of their UFC careers.
Now 2-0 in his second appearance for the club, Zalal scored with a skillful submission win over Jarno Errens to secure the $50,000 bonus.
Kazama, who had previously suffered two consecutive first-round defeats, scored a thrilling comeback victory over Charalampos Grigoriou, whom he defeated with a rear-naked choke in round 2.
